30 Fun Mother’s Day Activities

other’s Day celebrates all the fabulous mums and mother figures in our lives. If you fancy doing something special for her (or yourself!), but have run out of ideas, choose from our list of 30 fun and affordable Mother’s Day activities.

1. COOK HER FAVOURITE MEAL, OR…

Say “I love you Mum” by preparing her a Mother’s Day breakfast, lunch or dinner with her favourite dishes. If there’s something specific that Mum loves, making the effort to cook it for her is a really thoughtful gesture. Alternatively, if you live far away and cannot get back home, order her favourite dish from a local restaurant.

If you cannot think of anything specific that your Mum would like, why not try this simply delicious chicken risotto dish. Serve with some crusty white bread and a glass of fizz!

2. …TAKE HER FOR AFTERNOON TEA

Mum will love a fancy afternoon tea!

One of the most popular Mother’s Day presents is a mums-themed afternoon tea. Available up and down the country, dress up and take her for fancy sweet and savoury snacks. You’ll have a vast selection of delicious teas to choose from, or if you fancy something more indulgent, you can get prosecco or champagne afternoon teas.

3. BAKE HER A CAKE OR SOME COOKIES

This Mother’s Day bake something sweet or or have a baking day with your Mum! We love the grandeur of a Mother’s Day cake, but if you’re looking for something a bit easier, some biscuits will do nicely.

4. WATCH SOME LIVE MUSIC

If your mother is a music lover, she will really enjoy listening to some decent live music for the afternoon. There are bound to be some good local musicians playing at local pubs, so check local pub listings. You could even throw in a tasty Sunday pub roast too!

5. ENJOY A SHOW AT THE THEATRE

Is your Mum into musicals or comedy shows? Then book a matinee show to watch a musical or have a giggle at a comedy show.

6. HAVE A MOVIE DAY

A cinema day is a great, low-cost way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Get your favourite snacks – popcorn, hot dogs, nachos or sweets, gather some blankets and cushions, dim the lights and have a movie marathon of your Mum’s favourite films.

7. TAKE A CLASS

If you prefer more practical Mother’s Day activities, taking a class is a good shout. If your mother figure is fun-loving, a dance class could be really fun. A winetasting class is also fun, or for the daring Mum, why not do a martial arts class?

8. VISIT A MUSEUM OR GALLERY

Every day is a learning day, so for the inquisitive Mum, a visit to a gallery or museum is very interesting. Why not bring some pencils and a sketchbook and draw some of the artefacts or artworks.

9. DO SOME HOUSEHOLD CHORES, OR…

Far too often the burden of household chores falls on Mum. Make an effort to put this right, and do some household chores for her such as the hoovering, dusting or washing up. Don’t forget to help out with cleaning and cooking throughout the year, not just on Mother’s Day!

10. …DO SOME DIY

If there are any DIY tasks that are yet to be completed, Mother’s Day is a great time to start. Put up that shelf or put up that picture frame! The mum in your life will be happy to get a job ticked off the list.

11. HAVE AN AT-HOME SPA DAY

An at home spa day will leave Mum looking and feeling AMAZING

Bring the salon home with your own pamper day. Make some facemasks and creams for the face and body, slough away your dry skin, or even treat mum to a facial or head massage. Bliss!

12. GIVE HER A MANICURE OR PEDICURE

Another lovely thing to do for your Mum is give her a manicure or pedicure. A gadget like our Flawless Salon Nails makes doing nails simple, and we have plenty of footcare products to make pedicures super simple too.

13. DO SOME ARTS AND CRAFTS TOGETHER

Get your family’s creative juices flowing and have an arts and crafts day. Get some cheap canvases and paint something that reminds you of your mum or sew something cute like a patchwork quilt. You could even cut up some magazines and create a collage, just have fun with it!

14. HAVE A PICNIC

The weather should be pleasant across the weekend, so throw a picnic full of your mum’s favourite sandwiches and sweet treats. If not, have a picnic indoors.

15. HAVE A GAMES NIGHT

Whether you’re into board games or video games, a good old fashioned games night will entertain any mum with a competitive streak!

16. WRITE HER A LETTER

Mum will absolutely love you for writing her a letter detailing all the reasons why you love and are grateful for everything she does.

17. CREATE A FAMILY ALBUM

One of the most personal Mother’s Day activities, print some photos of your mum and create an album packed full of her most special moments. She is guaranteed to adore it.

18. HOST A FAMILY BBQ

With Spring having arrived, take advantage of the warmer weather with a tasty BBQ.

19. TAKE A POTTERY CLASS

Pottery classes are really fun and a great bonding experience, plus your Mum will get to keep what you and her have made afterward!

20. GO FOR A SCENIC WALK

A Mother’s Day walk is a great way to get into nature

Why not take your Mum out for a nice stroll around a gorgeous local park. The (hopefully!) good weather, plants and wildlife are sure to make both you and your mother feel fantastic.

21. GO ON HOLIDAY!

How about a staycation in a neighbouring city, exploring the local sights? Or, if your mother would prefer something further afield, take a last minute overseas holiday to somewhere warm.

22.DO A GYM CLASS TOGETHER

For an active mum, working out together is a great bonding experience. Try a fun aerobic class or for something gentler, a meditation or yoga class is a lovely option. Alternatively, get some fitness equipment and have your own sports day.

23. GO SHOPPING

If your mum’s a fashionista, treat her to a cheeky shopping trip!

24. COOK HER BREAKFAST IN BED

This is a classic Mother’s Day activity because it’s so beloved by mums. Cook your special lady a lush breakfast or brunch and take it up to her on a tray with a cuppa!

25.HAVE A KARAOKE SESSION

A family singalong is super fun. No need to book a karaoke booth, just pop on the karaoke versions of Mum’s favourite tracks on YouTube, and channel your inner Mariah Carey!

26. TAKE MUM TO GET HER HAIR DONE

Get Mum glammed up and book a salon session with her. Lots of hairdressers are offering Mother’s Day specials, from Mummy Makeovers and free products to a free glass of fizz with every treatment!

27. HAVE A SEASIDE DAY

A bit of sea air is good for everyone, so a nostalgic seaside trip is a wonderful idea for Mother’s Day. Paddle in the sea, have fun on fairground rides and eat some fish and chips on the beach! Your Mum is sure to have a great day.

28. DO A GIFT HUNT

Another great Mother’s Day idea is to create a Mother’s Day Gift hunt! Buy some small gifts and dot them around the house for the mum in your life to find. If you’re feeling extra helpful, write down some clues to help her locate her gifts!

29. HAVE A GARDENING SESSION

Get out into the garden, mow the lawn, do some weeding and water the plants with your mum. You could even plant some seeds to mark the special day.

30. OF COURSE, GET HER FAVOURITE FLOWERS

Say “I love you Mum” with fresh flowers

A bouquet of flowers or a plant is the most common Mother’s Day gesture. If you wish the blooms to last a bit longer, press and dry them and arrange them in a frame as a keepsake.

With all these Mother’s Day activities, the mum in your life is guaranteed a great day!
