Easter brings sunshine, warmth and the promise of warmer weather to come. It’s a signal to unfurl after the cold drudgery of winter and embrace the spring. It’s also a time to come together as a family and these Easter crafts are perfect, whatever the weather, to keep you all busy!
1) SALT DOUGH EASTER SHAPES
With a few store cupboard ingredients, you can create a dough that can be rolled out and cut into shapes. Bake in the oven and once cool, paint and decorate to make bright colourful hanging Easter ornaments.
Alternatively, if you have some spare fabric available you could craft Easter shapes from that.
2) EASTER TREE
Find a small fallen branch or twigs and arrange in a vase. Hang decorated eggshells. and your slat dough (or fabric) shapes using pretty pastel-coloured ribbons. Makes a lovely table centrepiece or a statement for the hallway.
If you’re feeling egg-stra (sorry) festive, why not repurpose the Christmas tree in the attic, and adorn it with bunnies, chicks and eggs?
3) COLOURING
There’s really nothing more fun than a colouring session and both adults and kids can get involved. You don’t need to have paper and pens to hand either – if you’re particularly tech-friendly, this stylus can help you have all the fun without messy pens and ink, and the Magic Pad allows you to erase and start again, as many times as you like!
4) EASTER DOOR WREATH
Adapt your ideas from a Christmas wreath to create one for the Easter season. Use spring flowers for colour and scent, interspersed with pastel coloured-ribbons and florists moss and so on.
5) PIPE CLEANER EGGS
Pipe cleaners are available in a range of colours but if not, simply dye white ones with food colouring and leave to dry. Wrap tightly around the craft polystyrene egg shapes and then cluster the colour eggs at the base of your Easter tree or in a bowl.
6) BUNNY EARS
One of the most loved Easter crafts is the bunny. Use a headband for a fun set of Easter bunny ears. Cover the band in ribbon and then add a floral centrepiece using florists wire, making sure no sharp ends are sticking out. Add two bunny ear loops with pipe cleaners.
7) EASTER CARDS
Homemade cards always carry an extra special message and so why not make your own, allowing your imagination to run wild. Cut out patterns, for example, use a tie-dye pattern with paint or get your colouring pens out and get creative. As Easter crafts go, this one has the most creative scope!
8) ORIGAMI EGG CUPS
Origami is the ancient art of folding paper and although it looks complicated, it can produce stunning results.
9) ACCORDION PAPER FLOWERS
Similar to origami, this uses coloured paper with several folds to make pretty shapes. Cut coloured paper into a shape such as a flower and then, from the centre, fold the paper several times so you have an accordion effect.
10) BUNNY PARTY BAGS
If you are hosting an Easter egg hunt, as well as baskets to hold their chocolate egg loot, Easter bunny bags are just as good. Use brown bags with pretty bunny faces drawn on them and away they go. Tie the bag with a bag tie when they are going home so that their bunny ears stick up and the face is swollen with the eggs inside! If you prefer, why not sew your own with the aid of a spare pillowcase and a handy stitcher.
11) EGGSHELL CANDLE HOLDERS
Another creative idea for used eggshells. Wash out and leave to dry and then spray the outside and inside with sparkly paint. Leave to dry and then add a small tealight candle to the interior. You have colourful candle holders for the Easter table.
12) EASTER PLACE SETTINGS
Create beautiful place settings with a few strands of florist wire topped with pom pom. Layover the top an oval piece of card with a small pom-pom as a tail and you have an Easter bunny place setting.
13) JAM JAR DECORATION
Use jam jars as rustic vases, perfect for decorating the table, as well as for holding various bits and bobs. Use glass paint to decorate the jar or wrap it in paper and decorate the sleeve.
14) WASHI TAPE DECORATIONS
A low-tack crafting tape from japan, you can find all kinds of coloured and patterned washi tape online and in craft stores. Use it to create Easter decorations such as on the jam jars or Easter cards.
15) PAINTED WICKER WREATHS
These small wicker wreaths are relatively inexpensive and can be used time and again. This Easter, use coloured paint to pick out the weave of one particular and use it as a centrepiece on your table (pile your colourful pipe cleaner eggs into the centre) or hang on the door with ribbon.
16) NAIL POLISH EGGS
Mix your favourite nail polish with water to make a dye bath – they won’t combine but will create a tie-dye effect when eggshells are dipped or immersed in the solution. Leave to dry and then use as decoration across the home.
17) OMBRE EGGS
Blow out the contents of a handful of eggs and then, in three or four separate containers, create a pink dye with food colouring and water. Graduate the depth of the colour so in one pot you have a very light pink through to a very dark, almost red colour. Place 3 or 4 empty eggshells in each dye bath so the eggshells soak up the colour. Remove and leave to dry. Once dry, put the lighter colour eggs into the bottom of the vase, followed by the next layer until you have the darker coloured eggs near the top. It makes a stunning centrepiece on its own or you can add a little water and festoon with flowers.
18) EASTER GARLAND
All you need is some colourful paper, string and a pair of scissors to create a cute easter garland. Cut bunny shapes and decorate with pom pom tails or spell ‘Happy Easter’ onto triangles for an Easter twist on bunting!
19) POM POM SHEEP
There is something about the time spent winding wool around cardboard ‘doughnuts, tying off and then cutting into poms poms that is so very satisfying. Make large pom poms for the sheep’s body and a slightly smaller one for the head. Stitch together, give the head eyes and a mouth and you have the cutest sheep for your Easter display.
20) EGG CARTON CHICKS
One of the simplest Easter crafts, these egg carton chicks are ideal to make with smaller children.
21) BAKING CASES FLOWERS
Layer different coloured paper baking cases together, secure using glue and then cut or feather the edges to make a pretty flower head. Use on cards or scattered across the Easter table.
With all these Easter crafts, you’re sure to have a jam packed Easter, so why not grab your art materials, warm up your sewing machine, and prepare for an Easter full of crafting fun.
