How Halloween is done and dusted, it’s time to look forward to our favourite time of year – Christmas! Since it’s the start of JML’s festive season and World Vegan Day (1st November), we thought we’d put together a list of some extremely tasty vegan Christmas recipes you’ll love to eat this year!

VEGAN CHRISTMAS RECIPES: STARTERS & CANAPES

First in our collection of plant-based Christmas foods are these delectable starters and canapes:

CHARRED MUSHROOM SKEWERS WITH SATAY SAUCE

These delicious mushroom skewers are great for a starter or finger food. They’re also quick and easy to make, with prep and cooking time coming in at just around the half hour mark! If you don’t fancy the satay sauce, try them with a simple sweet chilli sauce.

AUBERGINE & CHICKPEA BITES

Of all our vegan Christmas recipes this is one of the easiest to create. Simple combine aubergines, chickpeas and herbs into balls,  coat in polenta and bake. These are best served with a cooling vegan yoghurt. If you like spice, add paprika or curry powder to the chickpea and aubergine mix!

VEGAN SPICED PARSNIP BISQUE WITH BAKED BEETROOT CRISPS

Nothing says Christmas starter more than a warming bowl of soup. This parsnip bisque has all the flavours of a yummy vegan Christmas in one hearty bowl, especially when topped with baked beetroot crisps and pumpkin seeds.

CARAMELISED ONION CHUTNEY

We love this sweet onion chutney paired with a decent vegan cheddar on top of crusty cuts of French bread as a starter. If you’ve any foodie family or friends, why not give this away as a present? This will keep for up to a year!

VEGAN CHRISTMAS RECIPES: MAINS

And now for the main event! These vegan Christmas recipes prove that plant-based diets need not be boring! These main courses will make a grand centrepiece on any table and be sure to impress your nearest and dearest.

VEGAN ROAST-DINNER BOWLS

This is one of the yummiest vegan Christmas dinner recipes on the list. A hearty bowl of crispy roast potatoes, parsnips, cranberry sauce, and sage and onion stuffing balls all drenched in gorgeous thick gravy. What’s not to love?

VEGAN SAUSAGE PLAIT

This vegan sausage plait uses soya mince and stuffing mix for a meal that you’ll want seconds or third helpings of! It can be served hot, warm or cold and goes great with cranberry sauce and winter vegetables!

EASY NUT ROAST

A vegan Christmas list would not be complete without a classic nut roast. This one is super easy to make, and packed full of cranberries, pomegranate and mushrooms, every mouthful is filled with festive flavours. Serve with winter vegetables and smother in warming vegan gravy!

ULTIMATE VEGAN WELLINGTON

We absolutely love this showstopping vegan wellington because it’s as impressive looking as it is wonderful to eat. Just use some meaty vegan burgers for the filling. Both fellow vegans and meat-eaters alike will adore it. Serve with crispy roast potatoes, winter vegetables and of course, a warming glug of gravy.  

VEGAN CHRISTMAS WREATH

Last on our list of meat-free, plant-based Christmas mains is this Christmas wreath. It’s easy to prepare, and with its decorative cranberry and dill topping, it is a really impressive addition to any Christmas table.

Our vegan Christmas recipes would not be complete without the requisite sides. These are the best of a beautiful bunch!

SMASHED ROASTIES

A Christmas essential, these potatoes are really wonderful because they are extra crispy and so easy to prepare. To make life easier, why not prep your veggies in advance so there’s less to do ton the big day.

YORKSHIRE PUDDINGS

A roast isn’t a roast without Yorkshire puds and these ones are an absolute delight. Make sure the oil is piping hot to get a good rise on your Yorkshires. As a snack, why not fill with gravy and sage stuffing.

BALSAMIC AND BROWN SUGAR ROAST CARROTS AND PARSNIPS

These roasted carrots and parsnips are a great addition to any festive meal. Just roast chopped carrots and parsnips, coated in oil, then top with drizzled balsamic vinegar and scatter with brown sugar. Roast for a little while longer, then serve with your main meal.  

VEGAN CHRISTMAS RECIPES: DESSERTS

Lastly onto our favourite course – the sweet! There are plenty of really tasty vegan desserts, so let’s explore some of them.

VEGAN CHRISTMAS CAKE

Stuffed full of spiced and rum-soaked dried fruits, we adore this Christmas cake. To make, simply chop up the fruit, mix with rum and spices and combine with flour, sugar and dairy-free margarine. Serve with vegan vanilla ice cream or some hot vegan vanilla custard.

VEGAN MINCE PIES

These classic Christmas treats are perfect for after dinner or to gift to loved ones with a sweet tooth. They’re also able to be frozen too if you wish to keep a batch for a later date. Dust with icing sugar – be sure to check it is vegan as some popular brands contain egg white!

VEGAN GINGERBREAD CHRISTMAS TRIFLE

We absolutely love this incredible gingerbread Christmas trifle. Stuffed full of spiced cake and gingerbread men, sweet fruit, creamy vegan custard and cream, it is sure to wow young and old alike. This will take a little time to create due to different layers having to set, but it is well worth the effort, trust us!

VEGAN PAVLOVAS

With under half an hour of preparation time, these mini pavlovas are perfect if you want to create an impressive dessert but you have little time on your hands! Experiment with the toppings if you like – why not try with stewed cinnamon-spiced apples or pears?
