This week (1-7 September) marks Love Lamb Week. With this in mind, we’ve collected some phenomenal lamb recipes you and your family will love. From stews to burgers, you’re guaranteed to find dishes you’ll want to eat again and again.
1. ROSEMARY CRUMBED RACK OF LAMB
Firstly we start this list of lamb recipes with the impressive-looking, gorgeous rack of lamb dish. Perfect for a dinner party, the garlic and parmesan crumb sets of the soft meat perfectly. Goes great with roasted, buttered new potatoes or root veggies like parsnips and carrots-chop your veggies simply with this.
2. SPICY INDIAN LAMB BURGERS
Burgers need not just be just for the summer months! These gently-spiced burgers take a bit more prep time, but are well worth it, plus you can make things like the raita in advance. Crowned with mango chutney, coriander and salad, this tastes like having your favourite Indian takeaway in burger form. Serve with chips or spiced potato wedges.
3. BRAISED LAMB SHANKS
We cannot get enough of really delicious braised lamb shanks. Whilst you’d assume they’re difficult to make, lamb shanks are incredibly simple. Prep is quick, and all you need to do is cook low and slow for tender meat packed full of flavour. Due to the sumptuous red wine gravy, this dish is best served with mashed or roast potatoes. We also love these with sweet potato mash.
4. GREEK LAMB AND MACARONI BAKE
This gorgeous, warming pasta bake is ideal for the forthcoming cooler, autumn night. It takes the best parts of a moussaka and mac and cheese bake, and combines them – bliss! Just fry lamb mince in a pan – these are great – add seasoning, and combine with the tomato and cheeses. Firstly mix in cooked macaroni, transfer into a large baking dish and crumble with the remaining cheese, before baking. Best eaten with a side salad and garlic bread.
5. MINTED LAMB AND HALLOUMI KEBABS
Did you know that outside of Cyprus, Brits eat the most halloumi? With that knowledge it’s safe to say these kebabs are bound to be crowd-pleasers. As if their great taste wasn’t enough, they are so simple to make.
These go great with a salad of pulses (we love chickpeas and kidney beans) and rocket. We also love these in warm pitta bread or a naan wrap with a dollop of hummus or garlic aioli, a healthy homemade alternative to greasy shish kebabs that also tastes amazing.
6. GARLICY LAMB CHOPS
These garlic-flavoured lamb chops take so little time to prepare and cook and taste great. They’re ideal for a mid-week meal or when you can’t be bothered to spend ages in the kitchen.
Serve with creamy mash or a flatbread with an assortment of veggies.
7. LAMB, FETA AND CHIPS SALAD
Chips in a salad sounds like the thing of dreams, right? Well this to-die-for recipe brings dreams to life, combining minty lamb, feta and crispy chips for probably one of the tastiest, most indulgent salads we have ever eaten.
If you’re not into spinach, swap those out for another green vegetable such as kale or lettuce. Both will make a hearty salad that’s just as delicious.
8. LAMB BIRYANI
A takeway favourite, this lamb biryani is one of our easiest lamb recipes. If you cannot find paneer cheese, grilled halloumi is a decent alternative. Perfect for a Friday or Saturday night in, watching a movie.
9. LAMB SHANK PASTIES
If you’ve got a lamb shank on hand and fancy something different, this is the recipe for you.
These lamb shank pasties – a version of Cornish pasties – are rich, filling and full of flavour. Plus the recipe is even easier as it uses shop-bought puff pastry. These are an impressive addition to any picnic with a glass of wine or just as a treat for lunch.
10. HUMMUS KAWARMA
If you like hummus, you will LOVE Hummus Kawarma. This middle Eastern dish tops hummus with crispy fried lamb. It’s an excellent starter and is best enjoyed with a flatbread like warm pitta, or a cucumber salad.
11. GREEK LAMB MEATBALL, FETA AND TOMATO BAKE
This meatball bake is a true taste of the Mediterranean! The cheesy, tomato-flavoured meatballs go great with garlic bread, couscous, Greek salad or orzo. For a casual dinner party serve a variety of the sides we name above so your guests enjoy the meatballs with a load of tasty options.
12. LEFTOVER LAMB SHEPHERD’S PIE
One of the easiest of our lamb recipes is this shepherd’s pie. Simply shred your leftover lamb, combine with gravy and veg of your choice, top with creamy mash and sprinkle with parmesan before baking. Your family will love this as a dinner, and it’s wonderful as the weather cools down for autumn.
So there you have it! A variety of delicious lamb recipes for every occasion. Which will you be trying first?
